Seamless proactive handover across heterogeneous access networks

چکیده
Dual-mode handsets and multimode terminals are generating demand for solutions that enable convergence and seamless handover across heterogeneous access networks. The IEEE 802.21 working group is creating a framework that defines a Media Independent Handover Function (MIHF), facilitateshandoveracrossheterogeneous access networks and helpsmobile users experience better performance during mobility events. In this paper, we describe this 802.21 framework and also summarize a Media-independent Pre-Authentication (MPA) mechanism currently under discussion within the IRTF that can further optimize handover performance. We discuss how the 802.21 framework and the MPA technique can be integrated to improve handover performance. Finally, we describe a test-bed implementation and validate experimental performance results of the combined mobility technique. A. Dutta (B) · S. Das · D. متن کاملMulti-path Transmission Algorithm for End-to-End Seamless Handover across Heterogeneous Wireless Access Networks
In future mobile networks, new technologies will be needed to enable a mobile host to move across heterogeneous wireless access networks without disruption of the connection. In the past, many researchers have studied handover in such IP networks. In almost all cases, special network devices are needed to maintain the host’s mobility. Moreover, a host cannot move across heterogeneous wireless a...
متن کاملSeamless Handover For Unidirectional Broadcast Access Networks In Mobile IPv6
Mechanisms and protocol interactions for seamless handover of mobile multicast/broadcast services using unidirectional access networks in heterogeneous Mobile IP infrastructures are discussed and proposed. QoS based applications, such as content delivery, mobile TV, carousel and reliable downloads, requiring interaction channel, are considered, as well as recent standardization efforts for conv...
متن کاملA Survey of Seamless Handover in Heterogeneous Radio Access Networks
This paper provides a detailed discussion of the problem of Seamless Handover in Heterogeneous Radio Access Networks. Several approaches to providing a handover solution have been proposed, some of which will be described and compared, in order to indicate possible directions for continuing to search for a seamless handover solution. Various problems are present in the existing solutions, and a...
متن کاملMedia-Independent Handover Design for Seamless Mobility in Heterogeneous WiMAX/Wi-Fi Networks
As we are moving toward next generation wireless networks, we are facing the integration of heterogeneous access networks. The main challenge is to provide mobile users moving freely across different radio access technologies with satisfactory quality of services for a variety of applications. Consequently, the seamless roaming over heterogeneous networks is an important concern. To minimize th...
